The Museum of Taras Shevchenko, the leading institution of Ukraine and the world in Shevchenko studies, preserves a significant part of the artistic heritage of T. G. Shevchenko, which is part of the golden fund of Ukrainian culture.

Necessity

What is it for?

Studying and recreating the historical picture of the era in which the artist lived and worked, a comprehensive study of the artist’s personality, his life and career will allow building a center for the development of contemporary Ukrainian culture around Shevchenko’s figure as the greatest moral authority for all Ukrainians.

Studying

Activities of cultural, educational and artistic center: concerts of chamber classical, folk, alternative music, various exhibition projects, master classes, lectures, literary evenings, open interviews, presentations of art and literary publications, watching feature films and documentaries.

Recreating

The museum collection was formed over 150 years and now has more than 85 thousand exhibits, of which 34 thousand exhibits belong to the main fund. Its most valuable part is represented in the permanent exhibition of the museum.

Worked

Museum staff created audio and video archives for Shevchenko subjects. Carries out methodological assistance to Shevchenko museums in Ukraine, helps them in preparing exhibits and making materials, as well as methodological assistance to Ukrainian communities in Russia, the USA, Canada, popularizes Ukrainian culture.

History

The transformation of the museum into a modern cultural, educational and art center, which, within its scientific activities, is also engaged in the collection and dissemination of knowledge about culture and history of the XIX, XX and XXI centuries, has begun.

Shevchenko-painter

He is called the Ukrainian Rembrandt, and in a creative manner they see the similarities with the peculiarities of the painting of Gauguin, Delacroix, Van Gogh, according to the level of his attempts in sculpture, he was not inferior to Rodin. The poet of the whole nation in the course of several centuries and an outstanding figure in the historical and cultural process of Ukraine, an example for imitation for many generations. A painter, a master of etching and graphics, a writer and poet, illustrator, a talented representative of the epistolary genre, in addition to everything he was a man of broad views, a philosopher and a luminaire. According to the plot and style of Shevchenko, the drawing is close to Oriental plots in the work of KP. Bryullov, because of which he was mistakenly considered a copy of the work of the teacher.
